I have a lot of Kindle books and had used the PC collections feature as a way of organizing them.Ĥ. All my content is there, but all my collections are wiped out. Well, so a rough road but a happy eventual destination, right? Well, to some extent. So, I unregister it, then go back to the PC app and finally got that pop-up box inviting me to register it.
It showed the Kindle app installed and registered on my PC. I went looking for it and eventually found it. I then vaguely remembered something about a device/application registry site on Amazon.
In that case, you open up the Kindle app and you see the app, sure, but no books, no libraries.and no way to register it inside the app. But in my case, I was reinstalling the application on a computer that had crashed and I had to wipe and reinstall Windows 11. It will give you a pop-up box asking for the email address and password you use with Amazon. If this is the first time you have ever downloaded the Kindle app to that particular computer you are in luck. I did a search there and finally found this obscure location.

I finally found a link that mentioned something about software download link site on Amazon. What directions?! So I did a google search and most links are to information at Amazon giving the exact same directions. It just says after purchase just follow directions on downloading it.

You search on Amazon for some information of how to download it once purchase, and the information is vacuous. The link just sends you to a page showing your recent purchase with an option to purchase it again. OK, now we're getting somewhere, you think! There's got to be a link to the download in the email. You look for it as a recent exe file, it's not there. Here, you have to find it in the Amazon store, you purchase it (for $0, but you better have a credit card linked to it or forget it).

Other computer apps, you go to the publisher, it a link, download it to an exe file, open the file and install it. It is hard to figure out how to download. Unfortunately, it falls short in pretty much every other way.ġ. Ok, so when you have the application loaded to your PC and have the ebook found, opened, and reading the Kindle for PC application is pretty good. I will keep getting my digital books from other sources. This is a poor attempt and really a sub par reading experience. I have no idea how this represents a better reading experience than the former windows store application. I would increase the Top and Bottom margins to create some breathing room, if I could. As a result the sheer amount of text on the screen is way too much for my taste. Another thing that I don't like is that the Top and Bottom margins are pretty small.

At least the full screen mode can be used to hide these two errors while reading. Menus styles remain stuck in 2001 and are completely distracting to a good read. There is an attempt to make this look like modern software but it is at best a half effort. (the last screen shot on this post is the initial view that you are presented with for your first read) The Dark Theme is only half complete the toolbars remain a blinding concrete grey, when the dark mode is turned on. As for the reading view you really need to tweak the settings to get anything close to acceptable. It seems to crawl to a stop when a title is downloading. Reading is not bad but the library interface is slow to respond. So if you want to read books on your PC or Windows Tablet, look elsewhere. Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2018
